Charter Member of Lions Club of J. B. Nagar since 1971.
Have regularly attended all the regular meetings of the Club / Zone / District. Have received 100% attendance awards for more than 17 years.
Received certificate of appreciation from the international president for introducing maximum 9 members during a year.
Have served the club under various positions such as tamer, tale twister, Treasurer, Secretary and director. Was instrumental in adopting municipal school at Telligali and setting up the Chemical and Physical laboratory during tenure as Secretary.
Was the president in the year 1982-83. The permanent project of this year was a Telephone booth for handicap on corner of Azad Lane & M.V.Road. This was set-up with the help of MTNL and Vijay Merchant Charity.
Was District Chairman for re-habilitation in the year 1983-84 & District 1987-88 Chairman for Yoga in 1987-88.
Was inspired by Mrs. Wagle (corporator) in 1989 to start a Shishuvihar (Balwadi) at the premises of Shree Nityanand Municipal School at Sahar Road , Andheri (E). Could start this in 1992 after efforts to get necessary permission and repair the premises. Children from needy low income family are provided pre-school training in Marathi medium. Within 6 years the enrollment was up to 60 children's. All children get admission in good schools due to this training.
Total expenses are more than Rs. 80,000 per year. “Share and Care”, USA has been donating US$ 1500/- to 2000/- regularly. Number of other donors from our Club and outside also support this cause.
This project is still continuing and due to recent requirement of the society we have started the education in English medium. Students are also given nourishing food of biscuits and banana Free health check of children and then parents is undertaken. |
